English Language Arts
Our English Department is committed to giving students a strong background in all language arts skills, based on the California Common Core State Standards, English Language Arts and Literacy in History/Social Studies, Science, and Technical Subjects.
The standards are divided into strands:
- Reading
- Writing
- Speaking and Listening
- Language
There is also an interdisciplinary expectation that the development of each student's literacy skills is a shared responsibility—English language arts teachers collaborating with teachers of other academic content subjects for an integrated model of literacy across the curriculum. They address the demands of today to prepare students to succeed tomorrow.
